Tabloids Critique the Celebrities, so We Critique the Tabloids!
I know I’m not supposed to look at tabloids anymore, but today I gave into the impulse. I went to the Y to work out and realized I forgot my book to read during the treadmill and the exercise bike. Doing those things without reading is extremely boring to me. Well, the magazines at the Y suck. They have Time, Sports Illustrated, car magazines, and Ladies Home Journal. I can stand a little bit of LHJ but I wasn’t in the mood for it today. I wanted some good reading material. So I went to Food Lion next door and bought an issue of OK! magazine.
I savored every minute of it. It made my workout so fun! There is something about reading tabloids that actually makes me feel happy. But, it is an expensive habit. The magazine was $3.99 without tax. That’s $4.00 and it only takes me about an hour to read the whole thing. Four dollars for an hour of pleasure. Pretty expensive. I understand why God does not want me to read these rags.
Anyway, I really enjoyed the juicy article about the whole Gosselin drama, and I got a good chuckle at Kate’s dorky high school photo. Goodness gracious, what a geek! We are about the same age so it is not about being dated. My high school pictures look good! In fact, I looked better then than I do now! I can’t say the same about Kate. The funniest part is that she had a bad haircut back then too. The poor girl has no fashion sense whatsoever. But I guess that’s the least of her problems right now. It would suck to be her – 8 kids, a cheating husband. No thank you.
Here is a new feature I’m playing around with that I call ‘Cover Wars.’ Basically we vote on the most intriguing tabloid cover of the week…Here they are:
In Touch — I will probably buy this one. I enjoy reading about all the Brangelina dysfunction. I am just waiting for that house of cards to come tumbling down. Farrah Fawcett…I heard she’s doing better but her son was arrested for drugs
Life & Style — Vom and gag. I might buy this for my BFF and read the Brangelina article but the sight of Octomom makes me sick. Especially when her crazy a** is on the cover of a tabloid like she’s famous for something other than having a ridiculous number of children.
OK! — While Lindsay’s meltdown looks intriguing, I am tired of all these weight loss stories. If I wanted weight loss advice I would pick up Fitness, Self, Shape or one of the countless other magazines that focus on this subject. I want GOSSIP, not diet tips.
Star — Yesss….Brit and K-Fed are bumping nasties again. I like them as a couple. I just do. They fit. As for the rest of the cover, meh. I really don’t care to read about the giant Summer’s Eve bottle known as Pete Wentz or Bruce Springsteen’s sexual escapades.
US — I might also buy this one because the stumbling train wreck known as Lilo fascinates me. Especially since it’s rumored she and Samantha Ronson are no more. I give them a week before they’re back together, fighting then having make-up sex. They need to go talk to Ellen and Portia for lesbian relationship advice. Then again, Lindsay could go back to men. LeAnn Rimes and her ‘affair’ — blah. Her husband looks ten different shades of gay.
Which covers do you find most fascinating, repellant or otherwise gossip worthy? Discuss!
XOXO

I can’t believe this: In the March 16th issue of OK! Weekly, there is a spread on pages 34 to 35 comparing Lauren Conrad to Jennifer Aniston! The title “IS LC THE NEW JEN?” sprawls across the top in huge letters.
Why does OK! Magazine think Lauren resembles Jen? Well, because she has a “TV BFF”, she’s had her heart broken (who hasn’t), she loves the beach (who doesn’t), she loves her dog (who doesn’t), and she dates her co-stars. Okay, not everyone has a “TV BFF” and dates their co-stars but the rest of the comparisons are pretty lame. They even posted pictures of the two wearing similar outfits, doing similar things.
Please. Don’t even go there. Lauren Conrad is nothing more than a glorified reality TV star while Jen is a highly accomplished actress. Actually, I rarely read celebrity news about LC because I don’t think she’s important. I watched The Hills once, to see what all the fuss was about, and it was so lame I could only stand about 5 minutes of it.
Jen on the other hand has been around a long time and has worked hard to get where she is. She’s been through some hard times but she has handled it with dignity and grace. I think that sometimes the media gets to her but she keeps her chin up. I have the utmost respect for Jen, and it just infuriates me that someone would actually call someone as lame as LC “The New Jen”. LC is not the new Jen. There is no “new” Jen. There never will be a new Jen. Jen is Jen and she will always be THE JEN. No one can replace her!
